RILM Abstracts of Music Literature

The article deals with that part of the art of well-known Lithuanian sculptor Regimantas Midvikis which is dedicated to the theme of Lithuanian national symbols. The sculptor’s works of art contain references to Lithuanian historical narratives, ancient Baltic mythology, symbols of statehood, historical tragedies, and the sacred themes of human existence. During his successful and prolific artistic career, Midvikis created more than fifty works of sculpture, many of which still adorn the public spaces of Lithuanian cities, and some of which are still under construction.

The article is focused on the peculiarities of Lithuanian Baroque architecture and historical and cultural conditions in which this architectural style emerged in the country. The author discusses the most notable examples of Lithuanian Baroque, especially those located in Vilnius and its environs. The impact of Italian artists in the making of Lithuanian Baroque architecture and decoration is brought into focus.

The article deals with the questions regarding how cultural and collective memory is being represented and treated in the public spaces of Vilnius. The author argues that in many cases the progress of the sphere of design of public spaces and erecting monuments was slower than one could expect and discusses reasons why so many public spaces and their monuments are unsuccessful in Lithuania’s capital despite numerous attempts at commemorating important dates and figures. The lack of political will, as well as manipulations of public opinion, ill-prepared and thus ineffectual architectural contests expose a number of negative features of post-Soviet society and its culture. The author of the article insists that unlike some critics claim, nothing is wrong with the people’s wish to have more monuments in the country’s capital, the problem is about their meaningfulness, aesthetics and cultural impact.

The urban planning ideas of Camillo Sitte were largely ignored by the West and East likewise throughout the last century during which so much of urban destruction has happened. And thus a potential for sound urban renewal was lost for the last century. In the meantime a destructive program was applied by the adversaries of the Cold War. Lithuanian urbanism of the Soviet era fell prey to this ideology of modern urbanism that disregarded any alternatives and was coined by Swiss-French architect and urban designer Le Corbusier. No wonder Vilnius urbanism followed the path that was envisioned by Le Corbusier and his followers..

Straipsnyje pateikiama išsami informacija apie užsienio kalbos specialiems tikslams mokymosi strategijas, supažindinama su atliktais tyrimais. Nagrinėjamos užsienio kalbos žodyno mokymosi strategijos, pateiktos kelios jų klasifikacijos. Remiantis gautais tyrimo duomenimis galima spręsti, kokios strategijos yra populiariausios tarp 4 Lietuvos universitetų studentų: žodyno naudojimas, naujų žodžių išmokimas pagal sekciją vadovėlyje, tai reiškia, kad studentai paviršutiniškai mokosi naujos leksikos. Straipsnyje siūlomi keli būdai mokytis specialybės leksikos. Autorės daro statistiškai pagrįstą išvadą, kad dėstytojo vaidmuo yra svarbus ugdant metakognityvinius įgūdžius per svetimosios kalbos paskaitas nekalbinėse aukštosiose mokyklose. Atradimo ir apibendrinimo ar konsolidacijos metakognityvinės strategijos yra populiaresnės tarp vyresnių kursų studentų. Tai leidžia daryti išvadą, kad studentai, įgiję daugiau mokymosi įgūdžių ir pritaikę keletą mokymosi metodų, gali pereiti į aukštesnę svetimos kalbos vartojimo pakopą – nuo kognityvinių mokymosi strategijų prie metakognityvinių.

Straipsnyje išnagrinėtos informacinių technologijų pritaikymo bankinių paslaugų sektoriuje galimybės ir jų įtaka, siekiant įgyti konkurencinį pranašumą. Analitiniu metodu išanalizuota kelių Lietuvos ir užsienio bankų veikla, jų kompiuterizavimo lygis bei juose taikomos nutolusios bankininkystės formos. Taip pat remtasi autorių darbais, rengiant dokumentus, reglamentuojančius konkrečių Lietuvos bankų veiklą.
