The fundamental aim of this work is the study of the behavior exhibited by the ground electrodes in various situations. In the first chapters approach is made to certain concepts related to lightning, touch and step voltages or transferred voltage. Also making reference to protection devices against lightning being used the following methods: protection angle method, mesh method and rolling sphere method. It also presents a reference to the resistance and resistivity soil, being addressed in the first the study of electrode resistance and the methods used for measuring the resistance of a ground electrode. Before having gone to study of the earth electrode models was made an approach about the difference between the ground electrode and the ground network, the ground electrode is comprised of a conductor connected to a electrode buried in soil and the ground network is made up of all ground electrodes within their boundaries, and also conducted a study on the phenomena related to the behavior of a ground electrode when drain a shock current, these phenomena were basically inductive and capacitive characters or skin effect. Finally we studied the EMTP-ATP software, the latter having the aim of simulating mathematical models designed to describe the behavior on ground electrodes. In this chapter (chapter 10) is also presented additional tools and support routines that are used in EMTP-ATP.
