Teeth straightening with braces is widely used in the field of orthodontics. The aim of this study is to evaluate the impact of dental occlusal treatment technologies and damage to tooth enamel. Chemical composition of the studied teeth was determined by using Raman spectroscopy, while the initial topography of the tooth enamel surface - by using scanning electron microscopy method. Atomic force microscopy revealed the morphology of the tooth enamel surface before and after braces were removed. The study showed that the tooth enamel surface was severely damaged after braces were removed. The cracks had a diameter of ~1-2 µm and a depth of ~100 nm compared to lesions in control images performed prior to imitation orthodontic treatment. Three polishing tips were used in the study: porte, diamond and silicone. All polishing tips damaged the enamel surface irreversibly. The diamond polishing nozzle, which is less commonly used in orthodontics due to its high cost, had the least damaging effect to the tooth enamel surface.
