Computational flow conditions analysis of horizontal empennage of sailplane
Baigiamajame magistro darbe aprašomi aerodinamikos modeliavimai, naudojant dvi programas: sklandytuvo LAK-12 „Athenna Vortex Lattice” (AVL) ir XFLR5 skrydį skirtinguose skrydžio etapuose ir skirtingas skrydžio režimais. Be to, pagrindinis tyrimo objektas šiame darbe - horizontalioji uodega buvo modeliuojama atskirai, siekiant gauti išsamesnius rezultatus. Darbo apimtis - 60 p. teksto be priedų, 33 paveikslai, 10 lentelių, bibliografiniai šaltiniai.
The final master's thesis describes aerodynamics simulations using two software: Athenna Vortex Lattice (AVL) and XFLR5 for the sailplane LAK-12 during different flight stages and for different flight operations. Moreover, the main object of investigation in this work - the Horizontal Tail was simulated separately, in order to get more detailed results. As for the next stage, the Horizontal Tail was simulated during the flight with several elevator deflection angles. It gave us information on how the Horizontal Tail coefficient of lift is changing with the elevator deflection and changing of the angle of attack and allowed us to find the common value of viscous drag coefficient for each elevator deflection position. In other words, it showed us at which point the viscous drag reached its maximum value for each elevator position, creating the boundaries of desirable operation. Finally, the assessment of the received results was made and analyzed in order to formulate possible improvements for the sailplane's better performance. The work consists of three parts: introduction, literature review analyzing the theoretical knowledge about stability and control, the basics of sailplane design and influence of CG position, analysis of research methods where the used software is described, and the third is results and analysis, where the simulations of sailplane during different flight stages are described. The thesis consists of 60 p. text without appendixes, 33 pictures, 10 tables, bibliographical entries.
