On the problem of the pilot communication with the tower and approach services.
Darbo apimtis - 62 puslapiai be priedų.
In this master thesis the differences between the constructed standard ICAO phraseology and actual usage were analyzed. ICAO phraseology was developed and introduced in 1951 to provide efficient, clear and unambiguous communication between pilots and air traffic controllers. The master thesis consists of three main parts. In the first chapter, the theoretical background was presented by reviewing the nature of radiotelephony, situational parameters (such as characteristics of working environment and responsibilities of participants) of air-ground communication and the requirements for standard phraseology. There were previous researches on the air-ground communication reviewed as well. In the second chapter, the research methodology was introduced. By the use of classical qualitative content analysis method, the collected messages were analysed for any deviations from standard phraseology as described in ICAO documents. Because of the variety of the deviations, they were grouped into 6 categories such as Key Word, Pronunciation, Call Sign, Abridgement, Non-Standard Word and Other. The third chapter is the part where the standard phraseology was compared with the actual usage of it. In order to compare them, the audio recordings of communication between pilots and air traffic controllers were collected and transcribed.
