Air pollution today is one of the biggest environmental and public health challenges in the world. As a general rule, air pollution is monitored by measuring concentrations of various pollutants (e.g. carbon monoxide (CO), ozone (O3), nitrogen dioxides (NO2), sulphur dioxides (SO2) and particulate matter (PM)), in fixed areas using accurate and expensive devices. However, due to the high costs associated with the installation and maintenance of such devices, the number of monitoring sites in most territories is usually quite small, and although the established networks are able to meet regulated regulatory needs, it is insufficient. Low-cost sensor technology could complement traditional air pollution monitoring by providing high-density spatial pollution data in real time and increase community awareness of air pollution. In order for inexpensive sensors to be integrated into air quality monitoring, the reliability and accuracy of their data must be ensured. A comparison of the inexpensive air quality sensor SDS011 with the data of the official reference Žirmūnai air quality monitoring station was carried out. Measurements have shown that the SDS011 sensor provides high-level data that was collected over a period of almost a month under different meteorological conditions. Linear regression showed a good correlation between the two datasets with R2 values of PM10-0.91 and PM2.5-0.74. When assessing what may have determined the inadequacy of the data, the humidity and temperture of the air were taken into account. It was estimated that at the time of measurement, the temperature had no strong connection with inaccurate sensor data. However, when assessing the humidity of the air, it was found that relative humidity values (more than 75%) cause significant overestimations of the mass of PM, may affect inaccurate measurements of the sensor.
