The final master thesis develops an eco-composite using reeds and analyses its acoustic properties. The aim of this thesis is to develop an eco-composite for improving the acoustic performance of indoor environments. The overview part discusses the characteristics of noise, its health effects and preventive measures. The use of materials from renewable resources for sound insulation, the types of eco-composites and their structure are analysed. The software used for modelling sound propagation in the environment and inside buildings, such as INSUL and ZOBRA, is reviewed. INSUL is a program for calculating the sound insulation performance of single and double walls, floors, and glazing. ZORBA is a program for predicting the sound absorption capacity of building elements and can calculate the sound absorption of one to two layers in walls. The possibilities and features of simulation programmes are described. The section on research methodology describes the principles of operation of the interferometer and the reverberation chamber, the equipment used, and the methodology for the determination of the reverberation absorption coefficients of the eco-composite. The results section presents the sound absorption coefficients of the samples of reed tubes of different lengths tested during the tests. The reverberation time values obtained in the eco-composite reverberation chamber at different frequencies are also presented. Its reverberation absorption coefficients are calculated. The results of the tests carried out have enabled the acoustic properties of the reeds and the eco-composite to be assessed. The work is summarised by conclusions and recommendations.
