Baigiamajame magistro darbe nagrinėjamos Vilniaus gatvės ir jos prieigų Šiaulių centrinėje dalyje urbanistinės plėtros galimybės. Vilniaus gatvė - istorinė reprezentacinė miesto gatvė. Skirtingose miesto dalyse jos išvystymo laipsnis nevienodas ir nepakankamai įvertinta šios ašies svarba. Šiaulių istorinio centro urbanistinė struktūra XX a. buvo deformuota.
Potential urban development of Vilnius str. and its surrounding area in the central part of Šiauliai is being examined in this work. The status of Vilnius str. is a representational historic city street but its development is uneven in different parts of the city and the significance of the axis is not properly appreciated. As a result of the second world war and the implementation of Soviet urban planning ideologies that followed, Šiauliai's historic center suffered profound changes during the 20th century. Even though there are extant authentic urban structure elements, urban heritage is not preserved. After the implementation of the urban analysis, the originality of the plan, volumetric and spatial composition of Šiauliai historic city as well as its historical and cultural context are being discussed. It was sought to define the concept of the structural parts of the city - old town, or historic center, historic kernel of town, historic suburbs, central part of the city - and their interconnections and propose the boundary of the preserved urban structure. The research of the spatial structure of the central part of the city and structure of public space is the basis for the proposed model of development that would give a meaning to the surroundings of the historic center. Architectural-urban concept covers the area located between the city historic square and the new market. This area is on the joint of two different townscapes - the old town and its surroundings across Žemaitės str. Heavy traffic Žemaitės str. is a boundary, that is interrupting structural links of public space, one among them - Vilnius pedestrian street. The structure of passages and public spaces is developed in the blocks between Vilnius str. and Aušros alley and the link above Žemaitės str. is formed. Two fragments of the area are developed further - the complex of culture center and the bridge - building that links territories on both sides of Žemaitės str. Their composition is meant to be the kernel of the new center of Šiauliai city.
