Many harmful phenomena (lime, rust, bacterial sludge, etc.) are encountered in the operation of water systems, reducing the service life and operating efficiency of these systems. Although limescale is a natural derivative, it causes significant damage to equipment. Reducing the formation of various sludges in various production processes would significantly increase the efficiency of the equipment used and reduce the amount of chemicals required to clean the sludge. Based on these findings, the object of the research is the exploring of the feasibility of Merus ring technology to address sustainability and ecological issues. Aim of the research is to investigate the potential of Merus ring technology to address sustainability and ecological issues in the food industry, agriculture and maritime transport, and objectives are to analyse the causes of limescale and its negative impact on water-filled systems in different industries; to describe the working principle of the Merus ring technology, to establish the advantages of the application of the Merus ring technology for the modernisation of the desalination mechanism on board ship, and to explain the prospects for the application of the Merus ring technology in different industrial sectors. After analysing the causes of limescale and its negative impact on waterfilled systems in various industries, it can be stated that hard water and persistent limescale lead to shorter equipment lifetime, energy, heat and financial losses. Merus ring echnology, based on the results of scientific research conducted in the Merus laboratory, it can be stated that the company's scientists have been able to study and develop an oscillation (vibration) loop capable of counteracting any unwanted impurities or corrosive influences on the water-filled systems. After analysing the principles of application of Merus ring technology, the results of research and the experience of the companies that have adopted this technology, we can highlight the following advantages of this system: the technology is in line with the times (is up to date); its use promotes "Green Consumption"; the technology is friendly to people and the environment; it requires minimal human labour costs; reduces heat, energy and financial losses in the operation of water-filled systems. The analysis of scientific sources, feedback from partners already operating this system, and evaluations of their experience, suggests that the potential applications of Merus ring technology are not fully exploited yet. In the future, with more research, this technology could find applications in a wide range of industrial sectors, such as in household heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), hot water supply systems, for domestic use and so on.
