The only bastion built in the ethnic territory of Lithuania is part of the Biržai castle. The palace, located inside this castle, is quite representative in those kinds of bastions. It is a late Renaissance style building which was destroyed in 1704 and preserved after the Second World War. However, on account of the Lithuanian climate, bricks began to deteriorate so that it had to be rebuilt in 1986. The building has currently splits because of deformations of the foundations; this requires a fast analysis prior to renovation.
