In the world practice excavating machines are supplied with removable equipment that can be classified as follows: conventional, mutipurpose adaptive and transformable. Which kind of equipment is most rational to buy or to produce? The question is difficult to answer because it depends on many factors - the base machine fleet available, a specific character of work envisaged, economic power, the production and repair works, etc. The analysis of the latest patent information can give a clear view of the world trends in this field. The main evaluation criterion could be the increase in the amount of equipment during a certain period of time. The patent analysis of the last ten years enables us to conclude that the increase in the adaptive equipment is the greatest, while that in the transformable equipment is the least.
