Sustainability assessment of construction SCM through development of indicators

Abstract

Sustainable supply chain management (SSCM) refers to the proficient management of social, economic, and environmental factors that are interconnected in the construction and maintenance of global supply chains. By implementing SSCM, governance techniques can be utilized to minimize waste and ensure long-term sustainability, while providing economic value and promoting social and environmental well-being for all stakeholders involved in the production and delivery of goods and services at every stage of their lifecycle. The adoption of sustainable supply chain management practices in the construction industry can reduce environmental impact, mitigate the risk of failure, and enhance the competitiveness of construction companies. However, the management perspective and its importance are often disregarded, despite the fact that they determine the added value of a construction project. The construction supply chain comprises contractors, producers, building materials providers, builders and engineers, clients, as well as individuals, carriers, and other intermediaries who manage warehouses. Although all entities in the construction supply chain are connected through links of finance, data, and materials, not all of them are necessary in every segment of the chain.
