Abstract (en)
While conventional methods of steel frame analysis use two idealized connection models: the rigid-joint model and the pinned-joint model, in current practice so-called semi-rigid and/or partial-strength joints are most often used connections. The minimal volume rigid-plastic frame optimization added with evaluation of partial-strength joints is presented. In this case, the hybrid bar element with 6 degrees of freedom is created from bar element with flexible connections at both ends, which are represented by a spring. The evaluation of such joints enables designing more proper structures, herewith reaching the economical benefit.
