It is long enough that in the EU is stressed the necessity of well balanced transport system, which particularly depends shifting of capacities of transport modes, especially from freight road transport to alternative transport modes. However, in essence the situation is not changing. Transportation of goods by road still prevails, and as far as now the railway sector revitalization does not bring any considerable results. Because of that the implementation of concept of "intermodality in the reality", especially in the case of road-rail transport, so far is not reached [3]. This paper provides overview of the obstacles that burdens the development of intermodal rail-road transport on the territory of Lithuania, and presents some basic means that should be considered while implementing these intermodal services in the future.
