Abstract

In many branches of industry such as chemical[ lacguer - paint, oil processing, food, lots of organic materials are used. Most of them are emitted into atmosphere. Mostly widespread organic compounds are such as phenol, benzene, toluene, amines, etc. In order to reduce, their concentracions and to avoid hazardous environmental impact, filters which utilize these compounds are used. Nowadays the most popular air cleaning methods in the world are absorption, adsorption, thermal and catalytic oxidation. One of the most perspective air cleaning method is biological air cleaning. This method is based on organic compounds destruction by microorganisms. In order to increse the efficiency of this method it is necessery to select specific kind of microorganisms that destruct this contaminant. The important indexes for growth and good contamints destruction by microorganisms are pH, temperature and composition of cleaning gas. It is important to select filtration medium, where microorganisms can grow and construction decision of air cleaning equipment. This method can be used in Lithuania, because it has high cleaning efficiency and low prices.
