This paper describes changes in regulation of insurance intermediaries in Lithuania and EU Member States. Insurance distribution directive replaced Insurance Mediation directive which now is main regulatory document in process of selling insurance products in the EU. The application of Insurance Mediation Directive has shown that a number of provisions require further precision with a view to facilitating the exercise of insurance distribution and that the protection of consumers requires an extension of its scope to all sales of insurance products. Insurance undertakings which sell insurance products directly should be brought within the scope of this Directive on a similar basis to insurance agents and brokers. In this paper were analysed possibilities how to strengthen further the internal market and promote a true internal market for life and non-life insurance products and services.
