In order to have a full understanding about the semantic role of the artistic lay-out of Vilnius Old Town, the paper is devoted to one of essential systemic parts – the natural aspect. The paper gives a thorough account of the influence on the authentic artistic shape of the Old Town made by such elements as its geographic location, surface relief, hydrological components and greenery. Among other things an emphasis is made on the fact that the most important signs of the artistic contents of the Old Town were formed in the past because in its historical development all urban elements appeared by adapting them organically to natural setting.
