Abstract (en)
40K is a naturally occurring radioactive isotope of potassium. Radioactive 40K comprises a very small fraction (about 0,012 %) of naturally occurring potassium. 40K can be taken into the body by drinking water, eating food, or breathing air. The 40K that enters the bloodstream after ingestion or inhalation is quickly distributed to all organs and tissues. Elementary equations were used to assess the external irradiation and inhalation of 40K dust effective doses from KCl fertilizer. The external estimated irradiation effective dose for the KCl fertilizer loading plant workers is 4,0 mSv y–1 and estimated inhalation effective doses is 0,1 mSv y–1.
