Abstract (en)
Environmental regulations in the last 10 years have significantly increased the cost of hazardous waste disposal. The combination of regulatory changes, consumer efforts to acquire more cost efficient sorbents, and renewed industrial interest in reclaiming spilled liquids and implementating waste minimization have all generated substantial interest in new and upgraded sorbent technology. Efficiency, cost and convenience are of major importance. The industrial race is on to find sorbents that: (1) can be reused to minimize waste disposal volume and permit liquid reclamation. (2) can remove more liquid per unit to minimize disposal and handling costs, and (3) can completely remove the spilled liquid from the environment.
