Project of Lithuanian national second order geodetic vertical network

Abstract

Lithuanian First Order Geodetic Vertical Network composed of 16 lines, which form 5 closed polygons (their perimeter is 1970 km), is close to be finished. Completed First Order Geodetic Vertical Network will create a reliable reference of new height system (LAS) introduction in Lithuania. But this network is not dense enough and improved geoid model will not give not sufficiently exact normal heights for local points. Normal heights are calculated from ellipsoidal heights determined by GPS measurements. It is necessary to densify available First Order Geodetic Vertical Network by adding lines of Second Order Geodetic Vertical Network for completed reliable Geodetic Reference. The First Order Network benchmarks and ellipsoidal heights of National GPS Network will be used for Second Order Geodetic Vertical Network project.
