Abstract (en)
Thermal energy storage (TES) systems are used in heating and cooling applications when demand and production are not coincident in time. Thermal energy can be stored as sensible heat, latent heat or chemical energy. In this paper sensible and latent heat storage methods are studied. The energetic and environmental impacts of heat storage systems are discussed and main storage mediums are compared. The TES systems and their practical applications and some selection criteria have also been given. The heat storage tank as one of the best known heat storage technologies is presented. In the particular case, installation of large heat storage tank causes lower pollutants emissions, CO2 emission decreases by about 6,4 % and SOx by about 16,9 %.
