Water protection is one of the most thoroughly regulated sectors of the EU Environmental Protection laws. Directive 2000 60 EB, determining the basis of the Association actions in the politics of the Mater sector, was issued by the Council of the European Parliament in 23 October 2000. The aim of this directive is to determine a protection system for the internal surface Maters, coastline Maters and undergrounds Maters. In the meanwhile the legal situation of the Lithuanian Republic does not meet the requirements of the General Waters Directive (GWD) therefore GWD sectors were prioritized trying to get conciliation of the legal bases. Carrying out the requirements of the EU for the usage of the water resources and control of their quality, there is a need of performing restructuring in the administrative structures and waters' monitoring system and it is also very important to inform public with all questions concerning water politics.
