Scientists and practitioners worldwide are making efforts to find a successful model for technology development, seek to find a formula or set of rules to succeed in technologies development to avoid unproductive investments. In this article, technology development is treated as the path from transforming inventions into marketable products or services. There are many publications, which are aimed at managing the problems of the technology development process. However, earlier conducted studies show an apparent lack of research covering development processes that are alternative or related to the content of the technology development process, such as technology transfer, commercialisation, innovation and others processes. Is considerable chaos defining concepts and content of this process, both in the scientific literature, which deals with technology development problems and in the field of R&D organisations. The process of technology development from idea to market is multifaceted. This research allowed deepening the knowledge on the object of research from the perspective of systems theory to look at technology development more broadly. In order to manage chaos, the article presents the differences and interfaces between these models, following an analysis of the technology development process and alternative models used in practice. Also, research results present the possibility to use these technology development models in the next stage of this research for analysis the content of the technology development process: to determine the essential steps of decision-making, the content of information needed for decision-making, stakeholders, and their role in the technological development process.
