UV/H2O2 – advanced oxidation processes possibilities for textile reactive dyes decolorization

Reactive dyes are used extensively in the last years due to their excellent wash fastness, but they are environmentally hazardous and stated as carcinogenic. Discharged in water bodies inhibit the light penetration. This research was focused on investigation of the effectiveness of advanced oxidation process UV/H2O2 for decolorization of two type reactive dyes reactive yellow 84 (C.I.) and reactive red 141 (C.I.). All the experiments were performed in lab scale equipment with real textile reactive dyeing wastewater polluted with reacted dyes yellow 84 and red 141 (C.I.). The decolorization was achieved within 5 hours. After pH adjustment the full decolorization was achieved in 120 minutes. The COD decrease was achieved more than 70%. The reaction rate constants achieved at pH 11 – 0,00065 min -1; at pH 7 – 0,0044 min -1 and at pH 3 – 0,019 min -1.
