The hydropower plant regime makes important practical effects on hydrological characteristics and the water resources management in river basin. Dams alter river ecosystems and subsequently require development relationships between human activites and natural resources. The paper discusses the changes in hydrological – hydraulic characteristics caused by construction of hydropower plants in the river reaches. Main objects of research are evaluation of short–term impact of river on hydrological regime of hydro peaking. We have measured water level fluctuations downstream small and large hydropower plants. We have summarised the results of maximum water level fluctuation amplitudes and velocities after changing regime of hydropower plants turbines. The results showed that water level fluctuation amplitudes and water level declines exceed maximum velocities caused by storms many times.
