One of the main factors which influences carriage rates is locomotive fuel consumption. The article discusses a more accurate technique of calculating fuel consumption when a locomotive does its main work-carries loads or passengers. The point of the matter is that at different locomotive working conditions (slowing, accelerating, steeps, curves and etc.) fuel consumption ge is different. Fuel consumption can be defined precisely estimating the capacity of an engine. If the movement speed, railroad profile and train weight are known it is possible to describe precisely fuel consumption in different railroad sections and calculate the fuel quota.
