The main structural members of containment structures are walls subjected to the pressure of liquids or particulate materials, which depends on destination and structural solution of the containment structure and other effects. Forces in walls of such containment structures due to internal or external normal pressure are determined as these for a shell of revolution with allowance for edge effect. Evaluation of the latter effect is associated with structural solution of base slab and roof (if any). Base of underground containment structures is a structure placed on elastic foundation. The base can consist of several interconnected structural members (rings, slabs, shells etc.). Solution of a beam placed on elastic foundation is used for evaluation of edge effect in members of circular containment structures. Generally for practical use solution of a long (flexible) beam on elastic foundation is considered acceptable. But for many practical cases there are members (shells, slabs, beams), for which solutions of a long beam on elastic foundation are not suitable. Performed analysis allowed to correct method for evaluation of edge effect for medium length shells or beams, when solutions of flexible beams on elastic foundation are not suitable. It is demonstrated when this solution is not suitable. Evaluation of forces and displacements of a ring placed on elastic foundation is corrected. Performed investigations resulted in proposed general method for analysis of circular reinforced concrete containment structures.
