An experimental comparative method was developed to measure the capacity of natural powdered adsorbents (zeolites) for adsorbing organic matter (colourless potassium hydrogen phtalate C8H5KO4 and coloured methylen blue C16H18N3SCl · 3H2O). In addition to natural zeolites from the Ukrainian Zakarpatnerudprom company, zeolites from Poland, clinoptilolite from Hungary and other powdered adsorbents, namely, activated powdered carbon from Germany, opoka treated by heating and untreated from Poland, were tested. The used powdered adsorbents (with 0.5 mm and 0.14 mm particle size) from the Ukraine and Poland indicated the influence of organic matter concentrations, pH range in use for large- surface adsorbents (activated powdered carbon) and for smaller-surface adsorbents (natural zeolites). The experimental data are presented in tables and figures. Adsorption capacity of adsorbents was found to vary with water quality.
