Abstract (en)

The present work purposes to: inquire into the chances of application of an ecologically clean air cooling method based on the use of the natural cool of natural water bodies and compare the chances of using the cool of water taken from the Neris with the existing cooling system installed in the building from the energetic, economic and ecological point of view. Analysis of external weather and water temperatures over 2000-2004 (early April till the end of September) showed that under the largest temperature difference the cool of water could not secure the necessary coolness in the bulding. Thus, a decision to use water for the newly selected cooling machine was made. The enegetic, ecological and economic comparison of two cooling systems (the existing one based on freon and the new one based on water) indicated that in this particular case investment into the installation of the new system could amount to approximately 87 000 litas. However, the new air cooling system will not pay for itself because the operable area is too limited.
