The article analyses treatment of the historical suburbs of Vilnius in three regeneration projects of the old town of Vilnius. The historical suburbs are the territories which were left beyond the Town Wall erected at the beginning of the 16th century. A conclusion is drawn that the historical suburbs of Vilnius are territories of heritage and thus they must be provided protection. However, their protection should be different from that provided to the old town kernel of Vilnius. Also, these territories should not be lost within a general term “old town”.
