Biological phosphorus removal process begins when there are enough easily biodegradable organic matter in wastewater. These organic pollutants are described as a soluble easily biodegradable chemical oxygen demand (COD). Easily biodegradable organic pollutants are one of the most important factors, influencing the efficiency of biological phosphorus removal process. In order to select an efficient phosphorus removal method, it is important to evaluate the concentration easily biodegradable COD. Analysis of results showed that the average of easily biodegradable COD contains 6,8 % of total COD in summer season and the average of easily biodegradable COD contains 49,4 % of total COD in winter–spring period. Average values of the separate periods differ 7,26 times. This difference occurs due to the remarkable increase of the amount of slowly biodegradable organic matter in summer time which is related to the increase of economy activity during the season. The difference also occurs due to possible degradation of slowly biodegradable organic matter into the readily biodegradable organic matter in the pressure pipeline where the retention time of sewage increases in winter–spring period.
