This article explores the connections between some ideas of British romanticists that the creative writing process can be transformed into formal algorithms and automated, French surrealist automatic writing and the modern automatic literature movements “NaNoGenMo” and “Source Code Poetry”. The study substantiates the possibility of naming some trends in modern literature as literature of altered consciousness arising from the effort to eliminate the natural consciousness from the act of creation.
