Šis straipsnis skirtas šiemet minint 80-asias St. Dariaus ir S. Girėno skrydžio per Atlantą metines. Tikriausiai nėra reikalo kalbėti apie šio nuostabaus skrydžio poveikį lietuvių tautai ir šių didžiavyrių parodytą nesavanaudiško tarnavimo tautai pavyzdį. Apie tai jau tūkstančius kartų rašyta ir kalbėta. Svarbiausia yra suvokti, kur slypi sparnuotų lietuvių dvasios stiprybė ir tai, ar gyva didvyrių dvasia mūsų širdyse. Šiame straipsnyje ir bus peržvelgtos šio skrydžio problemos, eiga ir reikšmė lietuvių tautai.

Abstract (en)

This article is intended to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Steponas Darius and Stasys Girėnas flight across the Atlantic. Probably there is no need to discuss the extraordinary impact of this flight on the Lithuanian nation and the example of unselfish service to this nation shown by these heroes. This has been discussed thousands of times. The most important thing is to understand the sources from which these heroes drew spiritual strength and motivation and to see whether their spirit is still alive among us. This article analyses the problems, course of this flight and its significance to the Lithuanian people.
