Abstract (en)
Road safety literature overwhelmingly supports the relationships between speed and both the frequently and severity of crashes. Crash investigations have established that excessive or inappropriate speed is a major contributory factor in at least of one- third of all road crashes, making it the single most important contributory factos to casualities on Lithuanian and on foreign countries roads. Road safety engineers should make speed management a priority in casualty reduction strategies. Speed cameras have proven to be an extremely successful element of an integrated speed management strategy, and studies of foreign countrieshave consistently shown that deaths and seriuos injuries have been reduced by over a third at speed camera sites.
