Orimulsion experimentally has been started to be burnt at the Lithuanian Electrical Power Plant in 1995. Fifty thousand tons have been burnt out. Previously, it has been tested in other countries: Denmark. England, Canada. The information published in the press states that in terms of energy orimulsion fits dry mass) is equivalent to crude oil and can fully substitute it in thermal electrical power plants and large boiler houses. Orimulsion is necessary to note that this is not a natural material, but it is received by mixing two natural materials bitumen and water using a certain technology and adding some other materials in small quantities. During the technological process hot water with additives through wells is pumped into the bitumen layer, dissolves it, mixes with bitumen and forms a stable liquid fluid mixture. It has been established that standard orimulsion contains 26- 30 % of water, another part consists of bitumen. However, in order to maintain a stable mixture 0.035 % oj magnesium and very small amounts of organic materials are added. After disintegration of the structure, bitumen becomes hardened and water is separated orimulsion ceases being. However. until recently quite a lot of not clarified physical properties of orimulsion have existed and it is necessary to know them to avoid or reduce a possible ecological crisis in critical situations (accidents).
