Abstract

Safe work of the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant is a very important factor from the ecological point of view not only on the scale of Lithuania, but also on a world scale. The monitoring of recent movements of the earth-crust is very important by estimating the eco-geodynamic risk of the territory of the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant and its environs. The special geodynamic polygon consisting of 10 ground points was established in 1998 to research the horizontal movements of the earth-crust in the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant region. Horizontal movements of the earth-crust are observed with the help of GPS in these points. The analysis of measurements and the data of researches have revealed the differentiation of movement directions of some blocks of the earth-crust separated by tectonic breaks in the environs of the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant, and it may cause greater stresses in the earth-crust and influence seismic events.
