Abstract

In the article we have reviewed peculiarities of a small business in a field of services in Lithuania and Western countries. The privatisation of service enterprises confused many things in Lithuania’s serviced field. Besides the new owners of the privatised enterprises were not disposed to keep this type of activities, therefore it seems that this business wakes up again. In the West, what Lithuania tries to reach, prevails the opinion, that the service field starts dominate in the economy, comparing to branches of the mining and production of material values, that are loosing their strong base. We have also reviewed advantages and disadvantages of a small and medium business, and existing conditions of its development. In summarising it is possible to conclude, that formatting an effectively functioning private sector in the field of services - one of the most urgent problems of Lithuania.
