Stormwater is the main transport medium of pollutants to rivers. Harmful substances from the streets and other public spaces enter stormwater by runoff and then pollutants are carried out to rivers, lakes and other water bodies. Because of their physical and chemical properties these pollutants can cause significant damages to the aquatic ecosystems. Stormwater pollutants are classified into three categories: heavy metal pollutants, organic pollutants (biocidal products, etc.) and other pollutants.
