This article focuses on the rainfall as input data to problems related to urban stormwater treatment and water resource projects. For many purposes, especially those related to urban stormwater pollution control and receiving water impacts, the cumulative effects of successive storm events must be taken into account. This fact requires selection of design storms where-minimum inter-event dry times are incorporated. This paper will discuss the concept of inter-event dry times for evaluating-design storms derived from a rainfall record. The basic statistics of the concept are illustrated. As an example, the rainfall records for the Lithuanian city of Kaunas were analysed. A pluviograph rainfall records of the period 1967-196 were utilized for a statistical analysis. The relationship between the rainfall amount of a warm period and the rainfall depth and time are presented.
