Aiming to reduce electricity consumption as well as to minimise time losses incurred by vehicles, trafficlights on the crossroads in the towns of Lithuania are equipped with a supplementary attachable green arrow section. However, neither Lithuanian STR (Construction Technical Regulations), nor HCM/HBS (Highway…2005; Handbuch…2001) contain a more accurate methodology for the calculation of perviousness of such crossroads and road accident rate in relation to the current situation as well as in relation to the growth forecast of a traffic flow from the short-term perspective (up to 5 years). The analysis has shown that the number of road accidents resulting in deaths or injuries and the number of road accidents not resulting in deaths or injuries on such crossroads increases. The article describes a proposed methodology for the calculation of perviousness of traffic lanes and road accident rate taking account of the traffic flow volume on 1st traffic lane and of pedestrians’ flow volume as well as evaluating the discipline of persons participating in road traffic in the context of Lithuanian towns.
