Waste management in Lithuania is a priority sphere of environment protection. In Lithuanian cities the stress mainly is laid on this complex problem. Hut in countryside it is more complicated Domestic waste there is mostly dumped illegally. According to the observations carried out in Vilnius district it could be stated, that the real number of waste dumps several times exceeds the official data. SO % of dug wells in Vilnius district are microbiologically polluted and 50-60% - chemically. The origin of these pollutants is domestic. In Vilnius district there is the highest sickness rate in Lithuania. One of the reasons of this situation could he the large amount of dug wells pollution.
