Abstract (en)

The standards and guidelines on coordinate measuring machines (CMMs) calibration are analysed. The basic principles of CMM calibration, such as the comparator principle and the error synthesis principle are presented. The CMM calibration method using a pyramidal reference standard to determine geometric error parameters of the Cartesian axes CMM is described. The experience gained in the application of this method shows that it is suited to establish traceability of the CMM measurements according to the requirements of the ISO 9000 series standards.
