Abstract (en)

The article examines the actual problem - shadow economy that is insufficiently investigated in the scientific literature. The author validates the importance of the shadow economy research, reveals a wide range of approaches to the shadow economic phenomena and the spectrum directions of investigations. The article analyses the various causes of development of the shadow economy in Lithuania and the possible effect on the officially accounted economy as well as generalizes the potential consequences of the shadow economy to the country's economic and social development.
