Abstract (en)
In the family of bridge systems the cable – supported bridges are distinguished by their ability to overcome large spans. The main problem of suspension bridges is excessive deformability. In this paper, reasons for deformability are submitted and a new structural solution, which would increase systems rigidity are analyzed. One of the constructive ways to increase the rigidity of a suspension bridge is to transfer a part of stiffening beam rigidity to a suspension two hinge or three hinge cable. By changing the ratio of the cable bending stiffness to that of the stiffening girder as well as the original shape of rigid cable it is possible to reduce considerably the displacements of the suspension systems.
