Communicative competence and linguistic activity

Abstract

Nowadays greater requirements are presented to communicative competence of people, i.e. to their ability to communicate fluently, correctly and meaningfully. Thus, teaching students LSP one should look not only for new language teaching methods but he should again analyze linquistic activity. There are four types of linquistic activity, namely, reading, listening, speaking and writing. The formation of language skills at the higher school aims at constant development of students' proficiency in a foreign language. The student is expected to use the language both in everyday situations and professional environment, i.e. he must be able to find new necessary information, to participate in discussions actively (give questions, put his arguments for or against, express hid views, etc.), to make reports or presentations, to write summaries and applications. Almost every student having access to the Internet, the knowledge of English allows him to get global information on any issue he is interested in.
