The purpose of this work is to evaluate ability of three types of grassy plants: ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.), meadow-grass (Poa pra-tensis L.) and fescue (Festuca pratensis Huds) to absorb manganese from soil. Before planting the plants soil was spiked with Mn to reach concentration of 120 mg/kg. The highest uptake of Mn was found for ryegrass (17,2 mg/kg) whereas in fescue and meadow-grass it reached 11,4 mg/kg and 9,1 mg/kg accordingly. From soil spiked with Mn concentration of 162 mg/kg, uptake by investigated plants was similar and reached 156,25 mg/kg for ryegrass, 152,5 mg/kg – for fescue and 152,3 mg/kg for meadow–grass. From soil with 6 850 mg/kg concent-ration of Mn the highest amount uptaken was by perennial ryegrass (up to 1 007 mg/kg) and that in fescues and meadow-grass reached 976 mg/kg and 109,7 mg/kg accordingly.
