Abstract (en)
To maintain safety during winter, delcing salt (sodium chloride) is sprinkled over the roads. The snow, mixed with higway salt, is then cleared by snowplows and usually ends up on the roadside where trees have been planted. On conifers adversely affected by deicing salt, needle shedding is accelerated. Chloride and calcium are essential elemnts to plants. Conifers also use sodium in their metabolism. In greater amounts, however, especially sodium and chloride are toxic to plants. This work is literaty analysis of effect of salt for vegetation from foreign researcher (Japan, Finland, Spain, USA and Switzerland) studies.
