Abstract

As in many cities worldwide, the concentrations of air pollutants in the Vilnius city is increasing due to the increasing intensity of traffic. The only effective way to cn'oid air pollution episodes is the reduction. The biggest impact on Vilnius City air pollution is made by traffic (about 70 % of all pollution). The aim of this study was to determine the impact on air pollution made by traffic near the high intensity streets. NOx Emissions modeling in the high intensity street (Jasinskio street) by the AIRVIRO model had shown, that serious pollution episodes are not only caused by sudden increases in the emissions of pollutants, but also a result from short - term unfavorable meteorological conditions. Also the specific features like street width, number of vehicles, distance between houses on both sides of the street and their height makes an impact on pollutants dispersion.
