From 11 to 13 thousand tones of worn-out car tyres accumulate in Lithuania every year. Firms, which are registered as engaged in waste handling, only collect worn-out car tyres. The aim of the investigation was to define the characteristic changes of bitumen modified by scrap worn-out car tyres estimating the quantity of rubber used in the test mixture. During the investigation viscous heavy oil road asphalt of the mark 70/100 was modified. Under laboratory conditions the following bitumen characteristics were investigated: softening temperature, bitumen penetration and asphalt ductility.
