Didėjanti pasaulio prekyba laivų transportu neišvengiamai padidina emisijas iš laivų,kartu prisideda prie klimato kaitos. Tarptautinės jūrų organizacijos (toliau TJO) standartai reikalauja labai sumažinti sieros emisijas.Atėjo laikas, kai įsigalioja naujieji reikalavimai sieros kiekiams jūriniame kure ir vežėjai turi prisitaikyti.Šiame darbe apžvelgiamos įvairios oro taršos mažinimo iš laivų sieros junginiais galimybės. Atlikta įvairių tipų oro valymo sistemų (skruberių) apžvalga ir jų įrengimo galimybės. Analizuojami kuro mišinių komponavimo būdai ir sieros kiekio laivų kure mažinimo technologijos.Apžvelgiamos kitos alternatyvos laivų transporte, norint sumažinti sieringo kuro panaudojimą.
The International Maritime Organisation is responsible for the regulation of ship emissions arising from fuel combustion. Their current regulations are, however, much less strict than those applying to land-based transport within the European Union. The Sulphur Environmental Control Areas (SECA), where the strictest controls apply, are located in coastal seas: the only SECA in European waters covers the Baltic Sea and the North Sea.With less than a year to go until the sulphur content of marine fuels is capped at 0.5%,options available for ship operators to achieve this significant reduction from the pre-January1, 2020 permitted sulphur content level of 3.5% remain limited to three choices:1. Use an exhaust gas cleaning system (commonly known as a ‘scrubber’) and continue to burn high sulphur heavy fuel oil (HFO); 2.Use an engine that can run on an alternative, ultra-low sulphur fuel, such asliquefied natural gas (LNG), methanol, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), and ethane; 3. Use a compliant fuel with a sulphur content of <0.5%, which, according to the IMO, will be available in sufficient quantities.All of the choices listed above are applicable to both newbuildings and existing ships.Although, the retrofitting of engines that can burn alternative fuel types and scrubbertechnology has an increased cost compared to the installation incorporated into the buildingof a ship.The use of fuel desulphurisation technologies, such as oxidation, adsorption, or fuel blending, does not always produce the desired result and increases the cost of fuel. Therefore, the use of expensive low-sulfur fuels and exhaust scrubbers in a complex manner could provide a solution to this problem.Smaller ships could use battery-powered marine engines, hydrogen fuel, wind power or other alternatives to look for environmentally friendly alternatives to sulfur fuel.
